spicyinvalid You have to get this! It is such a super, super glorious album with many elements that we all enjoy. However, not much of 256 Pi's influences are familiar except Autechre and Squarepusher. Even so, various, subtle comparisons are heard comparable to Art of Noise and perhaps Plug (Luke Vibert's DnB project) 'Drum and Bass for Papa' release. Big recommendations coming your way to cop this record, stat! And because of all this, NSAD carries the 'Spicy Invalid Gold Star of Approval.' Favorite track: 410 Billion, 757 Million, 864 Thousand and 530.

So this is probably my weirdest and densest project to date (probably loudest on average as well), a loose concept about having ADHD and kinda following my headspace for 2020. It's a pretty hard turn away from 044444, that project was very focused and planned out and tight and cohesive and small-scale and this project is not really any of those things, stylistically pretty sporadic and all over the place, not focusing too heavy on any one sound of mine in particular, just kinda doing whatever I wanted, be it breakbeat-type stuff like Miles Per Hour, weirder IDM-influenced stuff, a few ambient cuts, a handful of drum'n'bass cuts, one straightforward trance cut, and more. Also been trying to capitalize on some of the missed potential on my previous 3 albums, If Tomorrow Is A Ball is probably the old one it most resembles but there's not as much funk and disco, the second half of Spiral as well but with more texture, also these tracks aren't nearly as long-winded as on there.

In terms of inspirations, I guess the most direct ones this time around were The Orb's "The Dream" and "No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds"? Not the parts with the cheesy pop hooks (which I do love but I know aren't everyone's cup of tea, and no, I did not sing or use my own voice on this project), just mainly inspired by the tone and style and density of those projects more than anything. Sometimes dark, sometimes goofy, often both, and always plenty going on for you to pay attention to. As for other influences, got the usual inspiration from Orbital, Hybrid, Squarepusher, Zircon, 808 State, quite a bit of A Guy Called Gerald inspiration this time since I'd been on a kick with his stuff lately, there's little bits inspired by Autechre, the trance cut was inspired by Paul Van Dyk and Astral Projection (probably a bit of BT as well since he bleeds through in my stuff a lot), an odd-time cut inspired by some of Patricia Taxxon's recent output like "Rosa" or just watching Adam Neely videos, and you get the idea, I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting but whatever hope you enjoy the album :)

All tracks created using ACID Music Studio 7.0 and FL Studio 11, sometimes one or the other and sometimes a combination of the two. The FL-exclusive ones this time are tracks 7, 8, and 17.

256 Pi Chicago, Illinois

My guess is that you know me for my YTPs or Wonky Angle reviews if anything, but I've been making music for far longer than I've been making videos. This is the place where I take my favorites from the music I've made and post it for people to listen to. It's all royalty-free/creative commons, btw, use however you like, just give credit :) Hope you enjoy. ... more
